Tom Jenkins

For Tom Jenkins, a British sports photographer shutter speed is essential. He photographs a variety of sports from football to tennis however for all sports one thing is common: movement. This leads to him using a fast shutter speed to capture a particular moment in a game/match/race etc...

Notice how the subject is the..well..main subject. Due to the high shutter speeds the aperture would be at its biggest possible (to allow light for the right exposure) so the depth of field is very shallow. Therefore the background is made unimportant because it is not in focus. This helps the viewer to focus on the sport.

Even though both Darzacq and Jenkins use fast shutter speeds, they use it slightly differently. Mainly because Darzacq uses it artistically and creatively whereas Jenkins uses it more 'practically' but also manages to achieve a high artistic standard.
